What do you keep in your car’s glove box? Do you keep it neat and tidy and only store necessary things like your owner’s manual, vehicle registration, and maybe a tire pressure gauge, or is it a black hole of endless junk? Whatever you keep in your glove box, Ford is determined to make this space even more useful with something the automaker has coined an “active glove box.”
The active glove box will debut on the 2015 Ford Mustang. It is the first of its kind and works to protect the passenger’s knees from injury in the event of a collision while also saving space.
Engineers used a flexible, injection-molded plastic bladder between the inner and outer glove box door panels to create a small, lightweight, yet effective airbag. With this innovation, the airbag is much smaller and about 65 percent lighter than a traditional airbag, allowing it to fit nicely within the glove box’s paneling.

This active glove box is just the latest in a long list of innovative technology used in the upcoming 2015 Mustang. It will be arriving this fall at Paul Obaugh Ford. Are you ready?
