There are few vehicles in the automotive industry that are as iconic as the Ford Mustang. With its powerful performance, lithe handling, and iconic silhouette, the Mustang is truly a one-of-a-kind vehicle. That’s why it comes as no surprise that it was recently named the world’s best-selling sports coupe.
Ford found that Mustang registrations from around the world reached 125,809 in 2017. This makes the iconic pony car ahead of all competition worldwide. This data was found after Ford looked through the most recent registration data from IHS Markit, which has compiled up to 95% of the global new vehicle volumes in over 80 countries.
“The world loves Ford Mustang,” said Erich Merkle, Ford sales analyst. “For years, Mustang was unobtainable for customers on most parts of the planet. It could be found on TV or the interior, and now it rolls down streets from Beijing to Sao Paulo.”
With nearly 126,000 Mustangs sold around the globe, Ford found that 81,866 of those were registered in the United States. This means that over one-third of Mustang registrations occurred in export markets. China in particular had a high demand for the ‘Stang with 7,125 registrations.
