You may assume that German or Japanese luxury brands would be the makers of America’s hottest selling luxury vehicles – or maybe even Cadillac or Lincoln – but would you believe us if we told Ford is actually dominating America’s luxury vehicle market? What if we went a step further and told you its Ford’s trucks that are bringing in the big bucks?
According to usatoday.com, luxury pickup trucks and SUVs have spurred the “luxe truck” phenomenon, which account for the most U.S. vehicle sales over $50,000, according to an analysis conducted by TrueCar. In fact, these high-end, feature-packed trucks make up six of the ten best-selling vehicles at the price level.
In the luxury truck and SUV market, Ford has got it figured out. TrueCar says the automaker is on track to sell 189,776 F-Series trucks priced at $50,000 or more this year– that’s more than U.S. sales of BMW’s 3, 5 and 7 Series, and more than the entire Audi lineup expects to sell. It also makes the F-Series of Ford trucks America’s top-selling luxury vehicle.
“Conventional wisdom says German premium brands would dominate the list of top-selling vehicles over $50,000,” says John Krafcik, president of TrueCar, in a statement. “The reality is that this price segment of the market is dominated by American pickups and SUVs sold through non-premium brand dealers.”
