Ford has finally announced that it has determined the issue and has worked up the recall repair order for the engine fires that resulted in mass recalls on 2013 Ford Escape and 2013 Ford Fusion models equipped with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine. Ford found that the fires were being caused by an issue with the cooling system software that failed to properly manage engine temperatures during “unique overheating conditions”, which in these conditions the cooling system would allow the engine to get hot enough to start a fire while running. This is now the third explanation for the engine fires, the other two explanations were faulty fuel lines thought to be the issue in July, and leaking coolant which was the issue in September. Though both of the former issues could be potentially created by the extreme heat that the cooling system is allowing.
To prevent the excess heat, Ford is using the recall to update the software on the cooling systems. Ford warns to any current owners, that they should contact the dealer and arrange alternative transportation and should not drive their EcoBoost 1.6-liter vehicle until this update has been performed.

Ford has done much with their Random Acts of Fusion marketing campaign, but they still aren’t done. The Ford Fusion and Random Acts of Fusion new challenge is 47 straight days of photo contests. Beginning this past Tuesday, September 18th, Ford will have a different photo contest representing the 47 MPG that the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid will get.
The contest will run until November 4th, and everyday will be a different challenge, Tuesdays challenge was to create the number 47 out of “beans”, take a photo of it and upload it. Now i know it seems random, but the foam used in the seat cushions, seat backs, head restraints is a soy-based sustainable material, with the equivalent of approximately 31,250 soybeans. Hence why they chose “beans”. So each day will likely have a new challenge pertaining to the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid.
The only rules to the challenge is that you must submit a photo, and every photo gets you an entry to the overall sweepstakes, and you can only submit one photo per day. There are multiple prizes that are given out daily, and a grand prize winner of an all-new 2013 Ford Fusion. (obviously there are many other rules such as copyright rules) for full details visit http://www.randomactsoffusion.com/47days/rules .
So get your camera ready, and check http://www.randomactsoffusion.com/47days daily for your chance to submit and raise your chances of winning your very own 2013 Ford Fusion during this 47 straight days of Random Acts of Fusion.
Ford certainly teased us last year by bringing a five-door Fiesta ST concept to the Los Angeles Auto Show. Shortly thereafter, the production Euro-spec three-door ST was revealed in Geneva, but Ford’s lips were still sealed about whether or not the pint-sized hot hatch would make its way to the United States.
Speaking to AutoGuide recently at an event in California, Ford Marketing Manager Steve Ling stated that “the Fiesta is the next to get the [ST] treatment.” That said, when Motor Trend reached out to Ford for comment, a representative from the automaker simply stated that a decision had not yet been made for other markets, including North America.
Ling mentioned that the same torque vectoring control system technology in the Focus ST will be at work in the upcoming hot Fiesta. The torque vectoring control system uses a combination of an electronic limited slip differential which uses the brakes to slow the inside wheel in a corner, and a electronic steering system which eliminates torque steer. Ford developed this system and the car’s suspension on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
In Europe, the Fiesta ST is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, good for 177 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Assuming the car is green-lit for U.S. consumption, we don’t expect those numbers to change. All we can say for now is, cross your fingers.
To honor the late Carroll Shelby a group calling itself the “Friends of Carroll Shelby” and consisting of numerous firms including the likes of Ford, Shelby American and Ford Racing has built a one-off tribute car based on the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Unveiled this weekend at one of the events surrounding the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the special Mustang Shelby GT500 Cobra has proven a hit, not only because of its significance to the automotive world but also because of its distinctive styling and impressive performance credentials.
Though the regular Mustang Shelby GT500 is no small feat, he Friends of Carroll Shelby decided to turn things up a notch nonetheless for this special car, which is nicknamed the Mustang Shelby GT500 Cobra. Thanks to a Ford Racing 4.0-liter Whipple supercharger, the car’s 5.8-liter V-8 engine now delivers a breathtaking 850HP. To make sure it can make the most of all that power, the design team increased the width of the rear tires. They now measure 345 millimeters across and are wrapped around equally-massive wheels measuring 13 inches across and 20 inches in diameter.
To fit the wheels in, as well as create a look reminiscent of Shelby’s legendary Cobra race cars, Shelby American provided a specially designed hood together with a custom wide-bodykit. The car has even been painted the same Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White stripes that graced so many of Shelby’s Cobra racers built in the 1960s.
On hand to unveil the Shelby GT500 Cobra this weekend was Edsel Ford II, Ford marketing boss Jim Farley and Shelby American president John Luft. Speaking at the unveiling, Farley said, “Even at 89 years of age, Carroll was an inspiration to us all. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the original Shelby Cobra. The one-off car we have created represents the very idea he had about making the 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 into a true Cobra.”
The car can be found at the Ford display in the expo area at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion this weekend. Ford plans to showcase it at a number of other events in the coming months, some of which will include track time.
In addition to the special Mustang, Ford said it will also rename a road at its product development center in Dearborn, MI, as a tribute to the late automotive legend.

Probably one of the most notorious vehicles ever produced by Ford, the Ford Mustang is the inspiration for the “pony car” class of American automobiles, and one of Ford’s most successful lines of vehicles. The Ford Mustang is an American Icon as people all over the world dream of driving one. Here is the history of the Pony Car Legend.
The Ford Mustang was introduced into the world in early 1964, some dubbing it a 1964 and a 1/2 model. The design was initially based of the successful Ford Falcon compact car and was introduced at the New York World’s Fair. The Mustang started out as a prototype vehicles called the T-5 project, which was a 2 seat, mid mounted engine roadster. This was quickly abandoned due to recent experiences with the 2 seat 1955 Thunderbird. Finally it was set as a four seater car with bucket seats and a low production cost. To achieve this production cost much of the first mustang was borrow form other Ford cars mostly the Ford Falcon. Original Sales were projected at 100,000 units for the first year, the Mustang galloped past that within the first 3 months. Another 318,000 would be sold during the first year, and in the first 18 months more than 1 million Mustangs were built.
The 1964 and a half models were only available in two models. the coupe and the convertible. Both models carried many of the same attributes including much chrome to the bumpers and grill, a lengthened hood and a shortened rear deck. Both versions also were available with a choice of 170 Cu. In. (101 HP) V6, a 260 Cu. In. (164 HP) V8, a 289 Cu. In. (210 HP) V8 and a 271 HP 289 Cu. In. V8. Options of either a 3 speed, 4 speed, or Automatic transmission were also available. In only the half year that the 1964 Mustang was produced it sold 121,538 units, and 22,000 of them on the first day.
This is only the VERY beginning of the Pony Car Legend. Stay tuned as we get in to the next part, that may very well include a man known very well for making the Mustang a racing car.

The Ford C-MAX Hybrid will be available this fall and there’s a buzz building for many reasons, but perhaps the “buzziest” is that it’s projected to achieve 47 mpg city! That’s 3 mpg more than the Toyota Prius. And the projected $25,995 base price is less than the base price of a Prius.
Ford plans to launch a dedicated line of hybrid vehicles, and the C-MAX Hybrid is the first to reach the lots. With 47 mpg city, and 44 mpg highway, the 188 HP engine will carry you 500-plus miles, again beating the Prius V and Prius, which comes in at a projected 134 HP.
The five-seater C-MAX Hybrid makes power from a combo of gasoline engine and battery-driven electric motor. When powered by gasoline, the C-MAX Hybrid uses the all-new 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine – a powerful and fuel-efficient engine and among the most advanced non-turbocharged four-cylinder powertrains Ford has ever offered. The new Brake Coach feature helps optimize use of the braking system, coaching you to brake in a manner that maximizes the amount of energy returned through the regenerative braking system. Redesigned imagery of green leaves shows overall driving efficiency – as you improve your efficient driving, you are rewarded with more leaves.
C-MAX Hybrid also offers technologies such as a hands-free liftgate, active park assist and the next-generation SmartGauge® with EcoGuide, which is designed to help you get the most from the C-MAX Hybrid, by providing information such as instantaneous fuel economy to help closely monitor how your driving behavior affects efficiency.
The C-MAX Hybrid beats out the Prius V, by offering 99.7 cubic feet of passenger space compared to the Prius V’s 97 cubic feet.
So finally there is a car that not only looks better than the Prius, but beats it in many other ways such as fuel economy, passenger space, and engine size. Could this be the end of the Prius? We can only hope.
