Ford’s EcoBoost Engines are the talk of the automotive world right now. Their smaller displacement and high output make them perfect for larger SUVs and trucks where more power is needed and fuel costs need to be quelled but they are also making waves in smaller sedans and coupes.
Right now the EcoBoost engine is available in the Ford F-150, Taurus, Edge and Explorer. When the next Ford Escape comes out, Ford is doing away with a hybrid version opting instead for 2 different EcoBoost models. We also expect to see much smaller versions of the EcoBoost Engine used in cars like the Fiesta and Focus to really drive MPG figures up without sacrificing power or performance.
This year Ford was honored by Ward’s annual list of the ten best engines. Two of their engines have made the top ten list. One of, if not the, largest engine in Ford’s line up the 5.0-liter V8 made the list along with the much, much smaller 2.0-liter EcoBoost.
The 4-cylinder EcoBoost was given the award for its application in the Edge and Explorer. The editors at WardsAuto said they were able to get 24 mpg in the Edge with the EcoBoost engine, “which deserves plaudits in this segement.”
This marks the second year that Ford’s large 5.0-liter V8 has made the list. The engine, which is currently used in the Mustang Boss 302, editors note, it is, “a 444 horsepower beast that pay homage to muscle cars of old but uses modern overhead cam and aluminum construction.”
Ford will receive their awards at the North American International Auto Show.
